LASER HAIR REMOVAL
How does laser work?
The laser works by directing concentrated light into the hair follicles which slowly destroys the hair and the hair follicle without damaging the surface of the skin. We use a deep penetrating wave length to effectively kill off the active hairs and inhibit new growth. This allows us to treat most skin colours with great efficiency and minimal risk to the skin.
Does it hurt?
The short answer is no! The In-Motion lasers that we use in our clinic have chilled sapphire tips that cool the skin before emitting the laser beam. Plus, our lasers use a wide beam which allows the removal of multiple hair follicles at the same time. Overall the procedure is quick and virtually painless.
How many treatments do I need?
We have different hair that grows for different reasons and is stimulated by different hormones. As a result, we can only give you a guideline for how many laser hair reduction sessions you will need. Generally we recommend a package of 6 sessions so that it is easy and affordable, however we find that most clients will require an average of 12 sessions to achieve longterm results. Maintenance is essential to stay on top of any new hair cells that form and grow and generally this involves one or two sessions a year for a few fluffy hairs that grow through. This will all be explained in detail at your complimentary consultation.
What do we recommend?
We recommend a complimentary consultation with your laser technician to discuss the intervals of time in between your sessions. This is all dependent on the colour or the hair, the colour of the skin and how fast the hair is currently growing. Your sessions will normally be around 4 or 6 week intervals however this is a guide only and your technician will discuss with you the best treatment plan going forward.
Things to consider:
You will need to shave the areas that are being treated 12-24 hrs prior to the appointment. We don’t recommend shaving on the day of your appointment as this can make the skin more sensitive during the treatment.
You cannot wax or tweeze the areas being treated as you will remove the whole hair from the follicle and then that follicle will not be targeted.
You may shave or use hair removal creams in between appointments. As you progress on your hair reduction journey you will notice that you wont have to shave in between sessions as much as we slowly kill off the active hair cycles.
You cannot have been in direct prolonged sun for two weeks prior to treatment and two weeks after treatment. If you have been in the sun we will reschedule your booking. You will risk hyper/hypo pigmentation if you have laser treatment on skin that has seen too much sun. We will ask you a series of questions prior to your session in order to qualify you for your treatment on the day.
You cannot have laser hair reduction if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
You cannot have laser hair reduction if you are on some medications or antibiotics.
We conduct a thorough consult prior to treatment and ask for the following details - full medical history as well as any surgeries (both medical and cosmetic), any medical conditions or diseases, herbal medicines, vitamins, supplements, steroids, skin treatments containing vitamin a or acids, skin medications or medicated skin treatments, oral antibiotics, oral antidepressants or mood elevators, hormonal medication or patches.
We cannot provide laser treatments over tattoos. The reason for this is that the laser will pick up on the colour of the tattoo (instead of the hair under the skin) which will cause a superficial burn and this will remove part of the tattoo. You can have laser treatments if you have tattoos on other areas of the body that not being treated.
For people who are deemed unsuitable for facial laser hair removal (sometimes due to the hair being too fine), Dermalplaning or waxing may be an option. Please check our skin and brow services.
