HOW DOES IT WORK?
The laser works by directing a certain amount of concentrated light into the hair follicles which slowly destroys the hair and the hair follicle. This inhibits the hair’s ability to grow without damaging the skin’s surface. We use in motion lasers in our clinic with chilled sapphire tips that pre cool the skin before emitting the laser beam. This allows us to treat most skin colors with great efficiency and minimal risk to the skin.
Did we mention that our lasers don’t even hurt? Our lasers use a wide beam which allows the removal of multiple hair follicles at the same time. We use a deep penetrating wave length to effectively kill off the active hairs.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS DO I NEED?
We can only give you a guideline for how many sessions you will need. There are so many variables when it comes to laser hair reduction. We cover this in great detail in our Complimentary Consultations. We recommend our packages in lots of six sessions for you so that it is easy and affordable. Most clients will have about 12 sessions on average. However, some clients have a few more and some a few less. It depends on the area being treated and where it is on the body. We have different hair that grows for different reasons and is stimulated by different hormones. We go in depth about this at your consultation. All clients return to us for maintenance treatments after the completion of their course of hair reduction. Maintenance is essential to stay on top of any new hair cells that form and grow. This is generally one or two sessions a year for a few fluffy hairs that grow through.
WHAT WE RECOMMEND?
We recommend a complimentary consultation with your laser technician to discuss the intervals of time in between your sessions. This is all dependant on the color or the hair, the color of the skin and how fast the hair is currently growing. Your sessions will normally be around 4 or 6 week intervals however this is a guide only and your technician will discuss what will be best for you.
THINGS TO CONSIDER PRIOR TO BOOKING
You will need to shave or use hair removal cream in between your sessions. And you will need to shave the areas treated 12-24 hrs prior to the appointment. We
don’t recommend shaving on the day of your appointment as this can make the skin more sensitive during the treatment.
You cannot wax or tweeze the areas being treated as you will remove the whole hair from the follicle and then that follicle and hair will not receive treatment. As you progress on your hair reduction journey you will notice that you wont have to shave in between sessions as much as we slowly kill off the active hair cycles.
You cannot have been in direct prolonged sun for two weeks prior to treatment and two weeks after treatment. If you have been in the sun we will reschedule your booking. You will risk hyper or hypo pigmentation if you come in and have laser on a skin that has seen too much sun. We ask prior to each session a series of questions to qualify you for your treatment on the day.
You cannot have laser hair reduction if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
You cannot have laser hair reduction if you are on some medications or antibiotics.
We conduct a thorough consult prior to treatment and ask for the following details - full medical history as well as any surgeries (both medical and cosmetic), any medical conditions or diseases, herbal medicines, vitamins, supplements, steroids, skin treatments containing vitamin a or acids, skin medications or medicated skin treatments, oral antibiotics, oral antidepressants or mood elevators, hormonal medication or patches.
You can have laser hair reduction if you have tattoos however if the tattoos are large or cover a large area of what you want treated for example – a large leg tattoo on the thigh means we cannot treat the thigh area. A large sleeve tattoo or full back tattoo means we cannot treat the arm with the tattoo or treat the back at all. The reason for this is the laser will pick up on the colour of the tattoo and cause a burn and remove part of the tattoo.
